The first Heinen’s store was asmall meat market opened in 1929 by Jeff and Thomas’ grandfather Joseph Heinen.Today, the company has evolved into 18 gourmet supermarkets, most offeringin-store cheese shops, specialty foods, private label organic products, andexpansive wine selections.
Heinen's recently opened a newstore in Barrington, Ill in August 2012, marking the chain's first ventureoutside northeast Ohio. Jeff and Tom Heinen, who own the 82-year-oldCleveland-based company, said they plan to open multiple stores in the greaterChicago area. The 38,000-sq. ft. store will feature nearly everything thecompany's Ohio stores do, but it will not offer parcel pick-up service.
