More VDOT Pictures

Hello, everyone. I thought I'd post some more pictures of VDOT's progress on their small bridge replacement. Take into account that this work is for a small rural bridge over a very tiny creek, maybe five feet wide after a good rain. This road work spans for at least four miles past the bridge. This part of the road was tree-lined. These pictures were taken as we were driving past.

Of course, these pictures don't do justice to the actual devastation which VDOT has done to this area. It looks like a vision from hell, especially when they have the huge bonfires going to burn the hundreds of trees which they have torn down.  The amount of land they have cleared could hold an entire small town. You would think they are putting in an interstate, but no, it is still going to be a two-lane road (or so they say). Does it make sense to tear down hundreds of trees and tear up so much land for a two-lane road and a tiny creek bridge?

It just makes me sick to look at it. This is south of our home. Our front yard will probably look like this within a few months. I know there are a lot of large rocks under the soil so they will be blasting our front yard. It was bad enough when they were blasting a little way down the road. Our entire house shook then. Can you imagine how bad it will be when it is right out front? Our two year old son was terrified when he heard the blasts go off and it will be so much louder when it is in our yard. What are we supposed to do- leave every day when they do blasting? No one around here got to vote on whether or not they wanted this. We did not get a say and we live here. So why does our government think they can just tear up the land, burn hundreds of trees, displace families, and lower the quality of living for all those in the area without the people's consent? How is that a democracy? How is that having Freedom? It is not Freedom when the government can come in, without giving the people a say, to steal land and homes from families to do needless road work.

How would you like to wake up one morning to be told that the government is taking your home and they will not be paying you anything for it, but you will have to leave? Oh, and you are not wealthy at all and live paycheck to paycheck. No savings either, because you can't save if you are living like this. How would you feel? What would you do?
